Thank you so, so much for your lovely feedback on the last newsletter. You’re the best.
Although I really wanted to come out punching this week and follow it with my Service Station Manifesto: how to improve the dire third spaces on our motorways, I thought you might prefer a round up of self catered accommodation to escape to in the UK instead…
As ever, I’ve picked those that I think hold their own aesthetically. Enjoy.
In some freak incident I’d fling a tin of beans up those white walls causing irreparable orange staining.

Don’t bring your dog but do gather your pals together and make a weekend of it in this smart townhouse a stone’s throw from the Royal Crescent in Bath. I like the fact the decoration is committed throughout and broadly in one language, something I find the Landmark Trust tends to do better than the National Trust.
If you couldn’t live with a frou-frou skirted chair day to day why not give one a whirl for a few days instead? I wouldn’t mind a coffee in that courtyard either.

The Crofter’s House, Isle of Skye
Perhaps something cool, calm and collected is more your thing? If so, pack your bags and get cracking on the journey to Skye. The palette is uncomplicated, near monastic in its uniformity and there’s room for two of you to put your feet up and your phones down (speaking as someone with awful screen time stats. yikes) …
Maen Melin, Little Mill, Abergavenny
This sweet cottage awaits 3 of you looking for a more traditional aesthetic. With a view of the Welsh mountains and a log burner to boot, I think you’ve got most bases covered when it comes to winding down. You’re a short walk from Abergavenny and all of its market town delights, too.

Brownber Hall, Krikby Stephen, Cumbria
Run by pals of my sister, Brownber has a Hall, House or Hut to choose from for your getaway in the Lakes. The House (above) can sleep up to 15 with a dining table to match; celebrating a special birthday up here would be a blast. The interiors are just lovely and not slavish to any one style which makes for fuss free, relaxing spaces throughout.

Fat Pheasant Shepherd Huts, Shoteswell, Oxfordshire
I promise this isn’t sponsored content (not that they need me anyway!) but this pair of huts belong to another clever friend. An easy train ride from London, you can book Huxley (above) and enjoy the gas bbq with side hob, striped deck chairs and a beaut pink outdoor bath to unwind in. That picture window isn’t half bad either.
Designed by Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen and Kasper Rønn of Copenhagen-based Norm Architects in 2014, Enkel house is now available to book. There’s a sauna, cinema room and creative space for you to enjoy plus you’re two miles from the coast. Oh and for those of you who love Benjamin Britten’s music you’re not too far from Aldeburgh if you fancy a spot o’ culture.
Frankly, I don’t think I’ll ever feel grown up enough for an interior like this. In some freak incident that Chris would watch with resignation, I’d fling a tin of beans up those white walls causing irreparable orange staining.
I know some of you lot are fully evolved humans though so I felt compelled to add it.
Until next time,
